Hi folks I am the new landlord of the chequers inn.
My partner Amy and I took over in December 2011.
We are in the process of a bit of decorating and renovation to this wonderful building. Along with the work we are carrying out we are also changing the menu and have a new chef bringing a fresh new flavour to the food we serve.
Appart from desserts there is almost nothing that we freeze so you can be sure that you are being served a fresh homemade meal every time.
We hope to see you soon in the new chequers inn

We hebben heerlijk gegeten in dit geweldige restaurant. Op woensdag was het steaknight echt aan te bevelen. We verbleven !2 dagen in dit dorp ( Ramsly Barn)
Een heerlijke tijd, veel gezien in Kent

Went on a Wednesday evening to partake of the “2 for £20 Steak Dinner” offer. On arrival at 7pm was told that they were sold out of the “offer” steaks and we ended up paying twice as much as we had expected. Landlord was a bit snotty when we asked for some kind of discount …said it “wasn’t worth him serving us if we wanted money off”. Needless to say, we haven’t been back.

I took my Husband and Father and the rest of my family to the chequres in High Halden for Fathers day, it was a Sunday, we had the carvary, it was the best roast i have ever had! the Meat was cooked just to my taste (and was very tasty) the veg were fresh and cooked just right. The puddings were Fab, i deffinently think it is the best pub in the area for service, the staff couldnt do enough for us, we were a large table there was no waiting around for service and of course food and price. My Dad loves Bitter he said it was a very good pint. We all cant waite for our next visit to the Chequers in Hihg Halden. Yours most impressed Sarah Jo Vane

Lovely building, in a nice village, just a shame about the menu, food and staff ! All 3 were far from the standard i would expect in the current economic climate as repeat business is something they wont be getting from our group. There wasnt one vegetarian option on the menu, other than a jacket potato or sandwich – hardly nice filling meals ! When we asked if the chef could prepare soemthing else, the simple answer was no ! We managed to get by simply by combining starters and main courses, but the food we were eventually served wasnt of a good standard – all cheap ingridients, such as the bread used for garlic bread, and the cheese in the potato. I would like to say the drinks were ok, but at the prices they charged for a ‘large’ coke from a tap, rather than a bottle, i would have to say it was massively overpriced. I wouldve asked to speak to the manager – but she was serving us, so what hope was there !

On Tuesday 24th May 2011 my family and I made a journey and passed The Chequers and decided to lunch there. The three of us thought it both a lovely building and setting. We were greeted cheerfully and the ambience was top graded. Alas the food was not quite what we had hopefully expected. My wife and daughter both ordered a Chargrilled Beefburger with trimmings, all very nicely organised on the plate; however the beefburger in question appeared to be a “Grill Steak” which yes had been chargrilled, probably to give it some kind of flavour, but it was a cheap variety and looked colourless and tasted much below the standard one would expect. It also had tomato ketchup on it’s underside which was not as advertised on the menu. My wife does not eat tomato ketchup at any time! I had the chicken wrapped in bacon but this was utterly tasteless, think it was boiled as it was certainly not roasted and was really bland. I don’t wish to make this sound as a formal complaint or grevience but we were most disappointed with the standard of food; in your favour I can only repeat the staff were most friendly. Yours rather disappointed. R.D.Hill.
