We currently have a few spaces for girls to join our village pack. We meet for fun, games, adventure and outdoor activities every week during term times. Brownies is for girls aged 7 to 10 years old and is part of the worldwide Guiding movement.
Girlguiding empowers nearly half a million girls in this country to be their best and face the challenges of growing up in the world today. To find out more about what we do go to www.girlguiding.org.uk or phone Brown Owl, Marianne Ball on 01233 850229.
We are also looking for another volunteer to join our team of Guiders and helpers. It’s great fun and very fulfilling to work with girls to deliver our programme. Girl guiding offers full training with support. Contact Brown Owl if you want to know more.

How much adventure can you take? Something for everyone ! ‘Life is not an X Box – 2017 Morocco Adventure’
Calling all young adults in High Halden and nearby…….
The past two years have been fantastically successful in providing opportunities for adventure in a very different cultural and mountainous country. You will be in a team of up to 25 leaving High Halden Village Green on Saturday 12 August and return on Sunday 20 August. You will be staying in Marrakech for 1 night, inside the medina / souk area where a local guide will take you on a tour of the tanneries / souks / Bahia Palace and other places of interest.
Then off to the Atlas mountains where you will stay in the Riad Dar Imlil in the small town of Imlil about 2 hours from Marrakech. Stopping for a short camel trek on the way to Imlil, you will then leave your baggage and straight out on a 3 hour orientation trek and meet our guides, Jamal and Mohammed.
The following days will be made up of foot trekking / mule supported trekking / cultural input and, for some, the opportunity of a three day trek to the top of Jebel Toubkal, the highest mountain in North Africa. Returning to Marrakech for the last night gives an opportunity for shopping and haggling !!!
The generous support of High Halden Parish Council; Ashford Borough Council; Kent Police and many individual sponsors make this possible and this opportunity is life-changing.
Are you up for it?
There will be briefing evenings in April and July with a team building weekend in July which will include a half day certificated first aid course. You have to pay for your coach fare from High Halden and return; your return air fare Gatwick to Marrakech; travel insurance and baggage allowance on the plane. Spending money is down to you !!
You will all be met by me at Marrakech airport on your arrival and transported to our hotel in the souk. All hotel costs, food, treks, guided tours and transport in Morocco are covered by sponsors who are paying £320 for each of you and for this you have to attend briefings and team building and help with the High Halden bus shelter cleaning rota.
AND FOR FAMILIES WHO MIGHT LIKE SMALLER BITE SIZE CHUNKS OF ADVENTURE. Shorter treks suitable for children and families /mule treks/ camel rides and guided tours of Marrakech…..Cultural understanding…..whatever you want is probably possible. Photography? Bird watching? A quiet time of contemplation? Yoga ? …..I will talk with you about what the total cost of YOUR family adventure will be. There is no sponsorship money available for anyone other than the X Box team.
SO…WHETHER YOU WANT TO JOIN IN AS A FULL-ON ADVENTURER IN THE ‘X BOX’ TEAM / KNOW SOMEONE WHO MIGHT BE INTERESTED OR IF YOU PREFER A QUIETER FAMILY EXPERIENCE IN A PART OF THE WORLD WHICH WOULD ALMOST CERTAINLY NOT BE YOUR USUAL HOLIDAY DESTINATION

- The Parish Council is setting out the conditions to ascertain the viability of the Village
Envelope/Confines Process and what they would expect the outcome to look like, i.e. a
potential scale of development that could be expected to come forward as a result of the
drawing on the’envelope/confines.’
- Assuming a village envelope exercise is appropriate, ABC officers will undertake a desktop
exercise to assess planning history and likely areas of debate using for example, GIS data,
aerial pictures, Google Street map imagery, etc.
- ABC officers willthen conduct a site visit.
- ABC officers will then produce some options as a ‘starter for 10’ for discussion with the
Parish Council. The number of options is likely to depend on the complexity of the
geography. and layout of the settlement and whether any ‘outlying’ groups of buildings
should be included or not.
- The Parish Council undertakes a local public consultation exercise which will be supported /
facilitated by ABC officers. The precise nature and scope of this may vary from place to place
but should provide an opportunity for all local residents to feed comments into the process.
- Both the PC and ABC officers consider the responses made during the public consultation
and decide on a preferred option.
- ABC officers prepare a report to Cabinet (or Planning Committee) setting out the process
undertaken, options considered, public comments received and the responses to such
comments with a recommendation that the preferred option be adopted for development
management purposes. lf agreed, this would then be applied as the ‘built confines’ for
purposes of interpreting adopted Local Plan policy for that settlement. The principal benefit of establishing a map-based village envelope is that it can provide greater
clarity for local residents, landowners, developers and decision-makers (whether that is the Borough
Council or the Planning Inspectorate in appeal scenarios) as to where the Local Planning Authority
and local community generally regard the built up part of their settlement begins and ends. This can
identify infilling opportunities in settlements or where ‘exception’ policies (such as those for Local
needs housing) might apply.
Whilst it is no longer the case that development proposals outside a village ‘envelope’ can be
automatically regarded as unacceptable in principle, as such an approach is not supported by
government policy in the NPPF, the greater clarity afforded by a defined ‘envelope’ may be a
material factor in the overall balance.
